Iranian Ballistic Missiles Strike Tel Aviv Metropolitan Area | DISCUSS

On Sunday, March 15, 2026, the Tel Aviv metropolitan area was targeted by at least four waves of Iranian ballistic missile attacks, part of a wider series of seven salvos launched toward Israel within a 24-hour period.

While Israel’s multi-layered air defense network intercepted a majority of the projectiles, several impacts and falling debris caused casualties and significant damage in central Israel.

Impacts and Use of Cluster Munitions

A disturbing development in the March 15 attacks was the widespread use of cluster bomb warheads on Iranian ballistic missiles, which spread hundreds of submunitions over civilian areas:

Bnei Brak: A man in his 60s was moderately injured when a cluster submunition struck an apartment building.

Ramat Gan & Petah Tikvah: Blasts from missile impacts lightly injured a 70-year-old man and two women, aged 46 and 18.

Holon: Falling debris from an interception sparked a major fire in the city, requiring an extensive response from Fire and Rescue Services.

US Consul Residence: A fragment from an Iranian missile reportedly struck a residential building used by the US consul in Israel.

Casualties and Damage Assessment

The Ministry of Health reported that 108 people were taken to hospitals over the past 24 hours due to conflict-related injuries, including physical wounds and acute anxiety.

Direct Hits: Since the war began on February 28, 15 civilians have been killed in Israel, and over 3,195 have been injured.

Cultural Loss: Previous strikes on March 1 and March 5 caused irreversible damage to UNESCO World Heritage buildings in Tel Aviv's White City and the glass facade of the Habima National Theatre.

Interceptor Shortage: Reports indicate that Israel has informed the US of a critical shortage in ballistic missile interceptors as it maintains an 86%–99% success rate against varying threats.

Israel’s Response: "Extensive" Strikes on Western Iran

In immediate retaliation, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced a new wave of "extensive" airstrikes targeting Iranian regime infrastructure in Western Iran:

Target Sites: The IDF focused on firepower arrays and air defense systems in the Isfahan area, including an IRGC airbase.

Operational Scale: Since the start of the campaign, the Israeli Air Force has completed approximately 400 strike sorties into Iranian airspace.

Leadership Targets: On March 13, Israeli strikes eliminated two senior officials in the intelligence branch of the Khatam al-Anbiya Emergency Headquarters.
