Iran’s Foreign Minister Slams US-Israeli Strikes on Schools | DISCUSS

On Friday, March 27, 2026, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi delivered a blistering video address to the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva. He accused the United States and Israel of a "calculated, phased assault" on Iran’s educational system, claiming that over 600 schools have been demolished and more than 1,000 students and teachers killed or injured in the 27 days since the conflict began.

The address coincided with an "Urgent Debate" at the UN specifically focused on the Minab school attack, which has become the symbol of civilian suffering in Operation Epic Fury.

The Toll on Education (Feb 28 – March 27, 2026)

The Foreign Minister’s figures highlight a devastating month for Iranian infrastructure and youth:

Schools Destroyed: Approximately 600 educational facilities have been damaged or leveled by airstrikes. Iranian officials argue these are not "accidents" but a deliberate attempt to "destroy the future of a generation".

Casualties: While Araghchi cited 1,000+ total victims (including injured), the Iranian Ministry of Education recently confirmed at least 230 students and teachers have been killed outright.

Displacement: The UN reports that the conflict has displaced nearly three million people and left millions of children without access to safe learning environments.

The "Minab Atrocity" in the Spotlight

The debate in Geneva centered on the Shajareh Tayyebeh Girls' Elementary School in Minab, struck on the war's first day:

"No Miscalculation": Araghchi rejected U.S. claims that the strike was a result of outdated intelligence or an "AI error" by the Maven Smart System. He argued that since the school was hit "triple-tap" style by precision Tomahawk missiles, the intent was clear.

Mother's Testimony: The Council heard from Mohaddeseh Fallahat, a grieving mother whose two children died in the strike. "No mother is prepared to hear the words: 'Your child is not coming back,'" she told the delegates.

International Reaction: UN rights chief Volker Türk and representatives from countries including Spain condemned the killing of children, stating that such actions "cannot be trivialized as mere collateral damage".
