Thai Cargo Ship "Mayuree Naree" Set Ablaze in Strait of Hormuz Strike | DISCUSS

On Wednesday, March 11, 2026, a Thai-flagged bulk carrier, the Mayuree Naree, was struck by a projectile in the Strait of Hormuz, causing a major fire and forcing the crew to abandon ship.

The attack occurred approximately 11 nautical miles north of Oman at around 11:00 a.m. local time, marking the most severe commercial shipping incident in the region since the U.S.-Israel-Iran conflict began 12 days ago.

Status of the Crew and Vessel

The Royal Thai Navy and the Omani Navy launched a joint rescue operation immediately following the distress call:

Rescued: 20 crew members were successfully evacuated by the Omani Navy and transported to Khasab, Oman.

Missing: Three crew members remain unaccounted for. Authorities believe they were in the engine compartment when the projectile struck the stern.

The Damage: Dramatic photos released by the Royal Thai Navy show heavy black smoke billowing from the hull and superstructure. While the fire was eventually extinguished by a skeleton crew, the vessel remains crippled and is moving at just one knot.

Route: The ship, owned by Precious Shipping PCL, had departed from Khalifa Port in the UAE and was en route to Kandla, India, carrying cargo.
